Healthy Dessert – Whole Wheat Bread Pudding

When buying whole wheat bread, make sure that you look at the ingredients list and not go by the label.

For bread to be 100% whole wheat, the words “whole wheat flour” or “100% wheat flour” should be the first and only flour in the bread.

Whole Wheat Apple Bread Pudding Recipe

1 loaf whole wheat bread-no seeds
3 Granny Smith Apples-peeled and sliced
1 tsp. lemon zest
2 cup skim milk
1 cup half and half
8 eggs
½ cup brown sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Cinnamon
Your Choice of: (14 caramel candies-unwrapped or 3/4 cup raisins or 1/2 cup chocolate chips)
½ cup nuts of your choice

  1. Combine all ingredients in large bowl.
  2. Dump into a greased casserole dish and cover.
  3. Bake at 350* for about 30-40 minutes or until set.

This recipe is awesome with raisins so if you really want the even healthier version of this apple bread pudding recipe, then use raisins instead of chocolate or caramel.
