Healthy Natural Food
Food that is natural tends to be healthier. When you think about it, the 3 most commonly avoided foods (salt, sugar and fat) occur in nature in natural moderation. We over-consume these items because we eat manufactured foods. People who focus on eating natural foods do not have to avoid fat, sugar or salt because they are naturally going to eat low-fat, low-sugar and low-salt foods.
Natural Food Choices
Before modern technology, truly natural food choices would be based on our environment. People who live in the Arctic need more fat due to the cold weather and harsh lifestyle. The natural occurring foods in these climates have more fat (whale meat, seals, etc.). People who live near the equator would naturally consume more nutrient-rich, low-fat and high-water-based plant items (mangos, coconuts, tree fruits, etc.).
The definition of natural is: existing in or caused by nature; not made or caused by humankind.
Natural has not been defined legally for food. The problem today is that natural food is hard to find because of our ability to transport food around the world and also to manufacture consumables that we call food.
There Is No Legal Definition For Natural Food
Unlike organic, there is no legal definition for natural food. Any food item can be labeled ‘natural’ because the person writing it is the person defining it.
If you want natural healthy foods you need to read your ingredient list on every food item. Do not buy your foods based on what it says on the label. Check the ingredients and pick your food based on YOUR definition of natural.
