Nine Ways To Naturally Prevent Cancer

Posted by debbixler, Jun 25th, 2008

I was recently cruising the internet and ran across the American Cancer Research Institute’s website. I presented the Debbie Banana children’s assembly to the National Cancer Research Institute’s “Bring Your Children to Work Day last year and am doing so again this summer. I thought it was the same organization so I stopped to read a couple of articles before surfing through.

American Cancer Research Institute

The ACRI says that there are specific things you can do to reduce your chances of cancer. They have reviewed over 70,000 studies and found these ways to naturally reduce your chance of cancer:

  1. Don’t smoke or use tobacco products.
  2. Be as lean as possible within normal body range.
  3. Be physically active as a part of your everyday life.
  4. Limit intake of energy-dense foods (high sugar and refined carbs).
  5. Eat plant-based foods as the majority of your food intake.
  6. Limit red meat and processed meats.
  7. Limit alcohol consumption.
  8. Limit consumption of salt.
  9. Make your goal to meet your nutritional requirements from your foods naturally and use supplements as an added insurance.

This seems pretty simple. Basically, they are saying that you should eat natural, fresh foods. Your diet should be predominantly fruits and veggies and you should limit the consumption of red meats.

The ACRI spent an astronomical amount of time and money figuring out what they could have learned by visiting WowYouAreReallyLucky.com Well, I am glad we have the documentation, anyway!

Hazards Of Plastics For You And The Future

Posted by debbixler, Apr 04th, 2008

Plastic - Safe?

Plastic is everywhere. If you live in the United States, you certainly cannot avoid plastic. From plastic wrap, containers, chairs, garbage bags, water bottles, food containers, carpeting, you name it, it is everywhere. Plastics are finally coming under scrutiny, both environmentally and from a health standpoint, at a consumer level. The hazards of plastics have long been known and have only lately been discussed or reported on.

Studies Show Plastic Not Safe - Cancer

Plastics are an environmental concern during both manufacture and disposal. Dioxins and other toxins are released into the air during the manufacturing process. Many plastics are not recyclable and they leach the same toxins into the soil of our landfills after disposal. Now the latest studies show (as do prior studies) that plastics leach into our food, our water and our bodies as well, and are causing a variety of health hazards. Hormonal disruption, sperm reduction, cancer, and increased susceptibility to diabetes are just a few of the health concerns that are being attributed to plastics.

Safe Plastic Bottles

  • Purchase as many of your products as possible in glass, metal or cardboard.
  • If you absolutely have to use plastic, (and who doesn’t?) select plastic codes numbers: 1,2,4,5.
  • Never microwave with plastic or plastic wrap.
  • Drink tap water out of a glass.
  • Use wax paper, parchment paper or deli paper instead of plastic wrap.

Any small changes you can make in your life will impact your health and the future environment.

‘New’ Research In Healthy Eating

Posted by debbixler, Jan 06th, 2008

Prevention Magazine

Prevention Magazine just announced a new breakthrough. They devoted an entire special edition issue to the latest scientific news in diabetes management. This is a direct quote from that issue: “You can lose weight and control blood sugar with real food.”

Women’s World

I read this headline on the front of Women’s World while in the grocery line: “Now You Can Lose Weight And Eat Pasta!” A quick glance over the article revealed that whole foods like pasta, rich in fiber, actually speed weight loss.

PA Newspaper Story

As I passed a news stand when filling up on gas, I saw this earth-shattering headline: “New Research Reveals TV Causes Obesity.” I didn’t even have to read that one to learn what it was about, or why TV causes obesity. I personally consumed an entire bag of chips last night while spacing out in front of a totally boring TV show.

New Research Shows….Duh

New (and old) research shows that when you eat real food you will be healthy! You can tell that the state of our health is a pretty sad situation when topics such as these even get researched, much less reported on!
