Healthy Nutritional Hiking Snacks

Nutritional Snacks That Are Durable

Hiking snacks must be durable and they also must be nutritious.

It is important to take nutrient-rich foods when hiking. It is easy to make a mistake when picking out your hiking snacks. Today so many foods are touted as being healthy and yet are not! When picking out your snacks or meal replacements for hiking always check the ingredients list.

Hiking requires high calorie meals and our bodies preferred source of energy is carbohydrates. While it is ok for your hiking snacks to be high carb and high calorie, it is not ok for them to be empty calories or very simple sugars such as high fructose corn syrup.

Whole Grain Carb Snacks

Your hiking snacks should be made from whole grain carbs such as brown rice, whole wheat flour or oats. These whole grains will also include the good fats that we need to maintain our energy levels.

Include Protein In Hiking Snacks

Nuts are the  protein source most often used in hiking snacks. Some also use legumes, nuts and seeds as well. In addition the use of whole grain carbohydrates adds some additional lean protein.

Sweeteners For Hiking Bars

As mentioned, when looking for quality hiking snacks do not seek out low calorie snacks but look for good sources of carbs and sweeteners. Regular sugar, honey or maple syrup are better choices than the many processed sugars like high fructose corn syrup or dextrose. Better yet though are dates, raisins or other direct fruits.

How TV Affects Your Kids Health

Affect Of TV On KidsDon’t watch TV shows with violent content and don’t buy from companies that sponsor violent TV shows. Did you ever notice how most of the companies that sponsor violence-based shows  are selling junk: soda, candy, and other violence-based TV shows.

I do not have cable at home and was on vacation last week.  Whenever I have the opportunity to watch cable TV I am always amazed how many channels are available and yet how poor  the offerings are that are featured on those stations. News, crime investigations, ridiculous reality shows and cartoons filled with violence and junk food commercials.

TV Affects Kids

Study after study has shown that TV affects your kids’ health and well being.

These are some of the facts about kids who watch excessive TV*:

  • Kids who watch more than 4 hours per day are more likely to be overweight.
  • Kids who view violent TV shows show more aggressive behavior.
  • Kids who watch violent TV shows view the world as a scary place.
  • Heavy TV watchers tend to participate more in risky behavior such as smoking, drinking and drugs.

After only 4 days of cable TV viewing, I am finding my sleep patterns changing and having weirdo dreams.

Violence On TV & Kids

Anyone who says that TV viewing does not affect young people is totally out of their minds.  What you put into your mind is what you get out! Violence in means violence out. Negativity in and negativity comes out.

Adults and young people should monitor what they put into their minds. It takes positive thoughts to create a positive lifestyle. TV is not good for anyone.

Simple Steps To Healthy Lifestyle

Healthy Lifestyle Is Not Easy!

When you hear the experts talking about what it takes to have a healthy lifestyle they make it sound easy.

  • Don’t smoke,
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Eat nutritious foods
  • Get regular exercise

healthy lifestyle dietThe prescription for a healthy lifestyle is simple but it certainly is not easy. In the 21st century it takes commitment, focus and an education to live a healthy life.

Most Are Not Living A Healthy Lifestyle

With the fast-paced world speeding us through life,  it is difficult to avoid using the many manufactured “home meal replacements” on the market, or for that matter to have the fortitude and willingness to quit smoking. It is difficult to return to a healthy lifestyle when we have become caught up in the hectic activities of life and are NOT living healthy.

Healthy Natural Diet

Going on a diet of any kind: natural, healthy or otherwise is usually not the answer. A diet is frequently short-lived.  Those who are “lucky” enough to experience long term health do not diet. They simply have a healthy lifestyle. The 6 Weeks To The New You healthy lifestyle diet program is a system of one day at a time, making small changes that assist you in returning to a healthier lifestyle. Small changes add up to big results.

Return To Health Is A Natural Progression

When you make small changes each day rather than “go on a diet” you will return to health gradually. Start the process to return to a healthy life with the 6 Weeks To The New You natural diet program!
